Multiple Sclerosis Therapies and Treatments I've Tried
61MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS Therapies and Treatments I've Used
Most victims of MS (Multiple Sclerosis) attempt to find their “Silver Bullet” cure for this dread disease. Many MSers have found something a drug, treatment, supplement, vitamins, traditional or nontraditional medicine modality, or combination of several to be of significant benefit.
I suspect that I have tried more
approaches than most. I started with Avonex, a self injected
Interferon which costs the patient or somebody about $1,400.00 per
month. I had never been in a wheelchair until I began shooting myself
in the leg once each week. My Neurologist was aghast when I told him
I'm stopping. He immediately offered to prescribe one of the other
self-injectable Interferons which I declined. Within two weeks, I was
walking again and continued to do so for over two years. Since then I've used a wheelchair or handicapped scooter.
It has been ten years since I accepted my MS diagnosis, going on SSDI (Social Security Disability Income). During this time, I have tried LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone), BVT (Bee Venom Therapy), CS (Colloidal Silver), Histamine patches, and a variety of both Traditional and Alternative Medicine methods of treatment attempting to restore my ambulation. None of these modalities have worked for me. Pain medication is yet another story. I will not get into it here.
So what is next? God only knows for certain but I will see my PCP (Primary Care Physician) in a couple of weeks to see about getting on to a pharmacological recommended to me by another Mser that this has had exciting results from 4-AP (4 Aminopyridine) for Multiple Sclerosis – Secondary Progressive (SPMS) or Permanent Progressive MS.
Thanks for your comments on my hub. Sounds like you have been up and down the treatment road more than most. I admit to being ignorant about a lot of treatments but I think I like to stick my head in the sand sometimes and just live day to day. I have only been on Copaxon,Rebiff and now Avonex. I recently went on Medicare and they would not pay for avonex for awhile and I did get worse while I was off of it. Right now I am back on and doing a steroid burst and getting some improvement,

Hi Russ, I have heard of 4-AP as well. Please let us know how it works or doesn't work for you. Of course I am hoping it WORKS! I would love to read about your bee therapy experience. Please include that in your future hubs! :)
